YOGA AND SOMATICS

In this CPD training for yoga teachers, you will explore traditional perspectives and somatic inquiry to refresh your approaches to āsana. This is a training for those who want to upgrade their teaching and practice, and facilitate learning and move away from instruction-based teaching.

Yoga and Somatics is an immersion into moving the body well with a good understanding of the traditions of somatic movement with particular reference to Feldenkrais. You will revisit and refine key principles of teaching through new and research-informed approaches to anatomy and methodology to help make your teaching more accessible and inclusive. In this session, we will move away from language like ‘full expression of the pose’ and ‘getting things right’ to moving within the natural range of motion and slowing things down to improve and reawaken your asana practice and teaching practice in a way that promotes practice not performance.

You will:

  • Explore the history of somatics

  • Learn how to incorporate somatics into class sequences and in your use of cues

  • Become proficient at using language beyond instruction and promote equity and self-inquiry

  • Explore the role of science and the nervous system and how this relates to somatics and yoga

  • Develop an understanding of interoception and proprioception as it relates to yoga
