THE HEART OF TEACHING | why this training?

In this training you will explore traditional perspectives and somatic inquiry to refresh your approaches to āsana and alignment. You will examine the context and application of teaching philosophy in a way that feels authentic and find new ways to use language to promote self-agency and student led learning. This is a training for those who want to upgrade their teaching and practice, and facilitate learning and move away from instruction based teaching.

ALIGN is an immersion into the fundamentals of āsana where you learn how to apply alignment principles rather than rules. You will revisit and refine key principles of teaching through new and research-informed approaches to anatomy and methodology.

You will learn:

Teaching Methodology and Practice

Learn how to create a group container for individual student experience
Learn techniques to facilitate a reflective practice that supports your self-practice and informs your teaching
Explore new pose variations, meditation techniques and breath practices
Expand your ‘prop toolbox’ and learn how to use props in innovative ways

Language and philosophy

Become proficient at using language beyond instruction and promote equity
Examine the historical themes and development of modern postural yoga
Explore how to offer inquiry-based instruction
Become adept at weaving philosophical themes into classes and teach beyond poses

Alignment and Anatomy

Develop an understanding of the anchors of alignment and how can they inform teaching
Use new approaches to map advanced asana

Learn how to use asana to affect the nervous system based on current research
Develop an understanding of hypermobility beyond “double joints” to empower your students

ACCREDITATION & ASSESSMENT

Attendance of all in-person sessions
Submission of a written project accounting for10 hours (only applicable if you would like CPD accreditation)
On the successful completion of the above you will receive a certificate valid for Yoga Alliance US
The completion of Beyond Alignment counts as one module towards the 300hr Heart of Teaching Advanced Training

VENUE

Studio io, Brighton

This beautiful studio is less than half a mile from Brighton Station (direct links to London). The Studio does not have parking but London Road Car park is a short walk away.
